BattleReport 2, The Aftermath.

April 20th, 2009

What a fun match.

As all of you know, the second BattleReport was released last week Friday and I spent a good few paragraphs gushing about how brilliant it was.

The Nighthawk’s new hunter-seeker ability caused quite a stir in the community after it almost single handedly won the game for the Terran when the Zerg were on the mass offensive.

If you are wondering why a Nighthawk died after a hunter-seeker missile was launched, here is what Cydra (a Blizzard employee) said about it:

Nighthawk launched Hunter Seeker Missile at one of Banelings and Hunter Seeker Missile gives a splash damage to the ground and air units of the enemy and friendly units as well. That’s how that Nighthawk died.

The addition of friendly fire on this awesome game-changing ability is very interesting. It will prevent mass spamming of the missile because you could end up murdering your own army. I have no doubt the professionals, with their wicked micro-management skills, will be gods with the hunter-seeker missiles. Terran isn’t a popular race on the competitive scene, so perhaps StarCraft 2 will change that.

It appears I wasn’t the only one who loved it. A few of my fellow StarCraft bloggers have written in depth reports on it, providing a lot more details into what we saw on the screen. Check after the jump for analysis from someone other than myself.

After some brief browsing, I stumbled across two excellent posts from fellow fansites.

Firstly, Deep.Thoughts from StarCraftWire wrote up a full commentary on the battle. He goes through the tactics used by the two opponents and provides a healthy amount of insight.

Secondly, Anderson from SC2Blog posted an overview of the match, and the various changes in this build of the game.

I heartily recommend you read both of them.

Good writeup, and good links to material I had otherwise overlooked in the great flood of Starcraft 2-excitement that spread all over the interweb after Battle Report 2 came out.

I must say, I just now discovered this site (via @Starfeeder on Twitter) and I just want to say that I like what I see. Keep it up, these are exciting times to be involved with eSports and starcraftmania.com is a good resource
