StarCraft 2 Release Date – Why It Will NOT Be June 2nd.

The American game retailer Gamestop recently gave out flyers with all the prospective game release dates until the end of October for all the major platforms. If you cast your eye to the bottom left of the image, you will see StarCraft 2 and a June 2nd release date. In most cases, a confirmed date of a highly anticipated game will have you mark that day on your calendar and take that day off work in preparation. In this case, please don’t do that, because Gamestop is lying.
Gamestop thinks it is coming out then, but Blizzard hasn’t confirmed any release date and the beta hasn’t even started yet. Gamestop simply wants you to drop some of your hard-earned dollars on a pre-order, which guarantees that they will make money from you for when it does eventually come out.
Anyone who knows anything knows Blizzard take their beta-testing very seriously, which results in long beta test periods while Blizzard iron out the last few kinks and balance gameplay. There is no possible way that a full beta can be done in time for a June release, let alone the gold certification and printing processes.
Blizzard will officially announce the release date when they are ready to, and no one will really know until that point. We speculate that it will be a November release.
In the meantime, place your pre-order somewhere where the retailer doesn’t lie to you to get more money.

Gamestomp aren’t the only ones that do this kind of thing. Unfortunately it’s all over the place. Go into three different gaming stores and each will have their own take on what the release date is. I’m keeping track of all the starcraft 2 release date news on my blog as well.

Starcraft2 has a 99.8% chance of being released in June. Sometime throught June to August. And Gamestop has no confirmed release dates. They are only guessing. They say confirmed to get other people’s attention or to get their preorder now. Just do’t think about the game for now and focus on your job or at school.

Ok. As of may6/2009 blizzard has begun the opt-in for beta testing. This is the process where they decide who to invite for beta testing. Today is may26/2009. Opt in process still continuing. There will be NO release anytime in June let alone June 2/2009. I myself believe it will be closer to oct-dec/09. (what a great Xmas gift it would make wouldn’t it?) IF you believe it will be out in June, you don’t deserve to play the game because you don’t meet the minimum common sence requirements. Sorry.

A few reasons to BOYCOTT Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty!
I. The development of StarCraft II was announced on May 19, 2007, at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Seoul, South Korea. Blizzard set a release date for the first public beta to summer 2009, but failed to make the release date. StarCraft II is being developed, under the codename Medusa, for concurrent release on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Blizzard has not yet announced a release date. Development on the game, initially delayed for a year by the temporary reassignment of Blizzard’s resources to World of Warcraft, began in 2003, shortly after Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne was released. According to Rob Pardo and Chris Sigaty, development for StarCraft II was put on hold for a year in 2005 due to the assistance needed for World of Warcraft.
II. Rob Pardo indicated in a June interview that LAN support would not be included in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Removing LAN has the effect of forcing players to connect through Blizzard’s servers, Battle.net, before playing multiplayer locally.
III. At the June 2008 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational, Blizzard Executive Vice President Rob Pardo was quoted as saying that development of the campaign was one-third complete. He also said that Starcraft II is to be released as a trilogy of games, starting with Wings of Liberty, focused on the Terrans, followed by Heart of the Swarm, revolving around the Zerg, and finally Legacy of the Void, devoted to the Protoss. – Consider the fact that we still waiting over 6 years for the SC2: Wings of Liberty, this means that the other two will be released in 2022…

Posts starting like 2 years ago, “omfg if it doesnt come out in early 09 im gonna burn my face” etc etc. 2 years later it seems to me that there must be alot of burnt faces and mass offings of death by keyboard to the face lulz.
